Why We Started Physio at Home

When people think about physiotherapy, they often picture travelling to a clinic, sitting in a waiting room and attending an appointment. For many people, that's perfectly manageable.

But for others, it's one of the biggest barriers to recovery.

After more than 20 years working as a physiotherapist in hospitals, community rehabilitation and patients' homes, I saw first-hand how difficult it could be for people to access the rehabilitation they needed. Patients recovering from surgery, living with neurological conditions or rebuilding their confidence after a fall were often expected to travel to appointments at a time when simply leaving the house could feel exhausting.

Some relied on family members to take time off work to drive them. Others faced long waits for appointments or decided not to seek physiotherapy at all because getting there simply felt too difficult.

It made me question why rehabilitation couldn't begin where people felt most comfortable – at home.

That question became the foundation of Physio at Home.

More Than Convenience

Home physiotherapy isn't simply about saving a journey. It's about providing rehabilitation where it has the greatest impact.

Every home is different. Every person's daily routine is different. The challenges someone faces aren't found in a treatment room – they're often on the stairs, in the kitchen, getting in and out of bed, stepping into the shower or walking safely to the front door.

By visiting people in their own homes, we can see those challenges first-hand and tailor treatment to the things that really matter. Instead of practising with unfamiliar equipment, we work in the environment where our patients live every day, helping them regain confidence in the activities that allow them to remain independent.

Every Patient Has Their Own Story

One of the things we enjoy most about home physiotherapy is getting to know the person behind the condition.

A diagnosis only tells part of the story.

One person may want to walk safely around the house again. Another wants to return to gardening, enjoy days out with family or simply feel confident enough to make a cup of tea without worrying about falling.

Those goals become our goals. Rather than following a standard programme, we take time to understand what is important to each individual and create a rehabilitation plan around them.

A Team That Shares the Same Values

As Physio at Home has grown, I wanted to ensure every patient received the same high standard of care and personal approach that inspired the business in the first place.

That's why I'm delighted to work alongside Senior Physiotherapist Hannah Trebilcock.

Like me, Hannah has extensive experience working within the NHS and has developed specialist skills supporting people with neurological conditions, rehabilitation following illness or injury, falls prevention and improving mobility. She shares the same belief that physiotherapy should be compassionate, evidence-based and centred around the individual, not just their diagnosis.

Together, we bring over 35 years of combined clinical experience to every home visit, while continuing to focus on what matters most—helping people regain confidence, improve their mobility and maintain their independence.

Looking Beyond Exercises

Physiotherapy is about far more than prescribing exercises.

It's about listening, understanding and helping people overcome the practical challenges they face every day.

Sometimes that's rebuilding strength after a hip replacement. Sometimes it's improving balance after a fall. Sometimes it's supporting someone living with Parkinson's disease or Multiple Sclerosis to stay active and independent for as long as possible.

Whatever the reason for our visit, our aim is always the same: to help people move with greater confidence and enjoy the best quality of life possible.

Looking Ahead

Physio at Home was founded on a simple belief: excellent physiotherapy should be accessible to everyone, especially those who find it hardest to reach a clinic.

We're proud to provide professional home physiotherapy across Cornwall, combining clinical expertise with a friendly, personal approach that puts people first.

Whether you're recovering after surgery, returning home from hospital, managing a long-term condition or supporting a loved one, we're here to help you achieve your goals—one step at a time.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our story. We look forward to helping many more people across Cornwall remain active, independent and confident in their own homes.
